Custom control systems
for heat pumps

Most often we control Chinese heat pumps. They offer good value for money, but their built-in controller assumes a simple installation. We work just as well with branded heat pumps that have a Modbus interface. The control system drives the heat pump directly together with the whole heating system, so it runs only as much as the house really needs. This raises its coefficient of performance (COP) and lowers heating costs.

Direct Modbus communication

The controller reads and sets heat pump parameters over the RS‑485 bus or the network. Most Chinese and many branded heat pumps have a Modbus interface; we verify the register map for your model.

Temperature by real demand

We set the heat pump setpoint automatically from the demand of the heating circuits. The heat pump does not heat more than necessary and runs more efficiently.

Combined heating circuits

Weather-compensated control of mixing valves for underfloor heating and radiators, each circuit with its own heating curve.

Circulation pumps and backup source

Switching of circulation pumps and cooperation with a backup boiler, including detection that the boiler is running.

Metering and overview

Electricity metering, connection to PV and batteries through Victron or another inverter with Modbus, charts of consumption and heat pump operation.

Home Assistant and alerts

All values and settings in Home Assistant, phone alerts for a suspected fault or when the boiler needs to be fired. Firmware updates over the network.

Typical setups

New build with underfloor heating

Heat pump, underfloor heating and a hot water tank. The water temperature follows the weather and the real demand of the house, not a fixed setting.

Older house with radiators

A heat pump replacing a gas or coal boiler, with the original radiators only. We set the heating curve to the real output of the radiators, so the water is as cool as possible and the heat pump runs at the highest possible efficiency.

Radiators and underfloor heating

Renovation with existing radiators and new underfloor heating. Two mixed circuits with their own curves and a buffer tank.

Bivalent operation

Heat pump with a backup boiler on solid fuel, gas or electricity. The controller supervises how the sources work together and tells you when to fire the boiler.

Hot water through a heat exchanger

Domestic hot water through a plate heat exchanger, also into several tanks in series. Hot water priority and temperatures set to the needs of the household.

House with PV and battery

Connection to Victron or another inverter with Modbus, or metering with an external energy meter. An overview of production, consumption and heat pump operation; we design control that takes PV energy into account.

Summer cooling

Heat pump in cooling mode through the floor or fan coils, with dew point supervision and room comfort.

Your brand is not listed? If the heat pump has a Modbus interface, we can find the registers even without documentation by analysing its communication with the controller.

We always verify the communication on the specific model and firmware version, read-only first.
